SmartBear Recognized as a Strong Performer in Omnichannel Functional Test Automation by Independent Research Firm

SmartBear Noted for Superior Capabilities in API Testing and Coding-based Scripting, Strong BDD Offering, and Clients that Like “The Flexibility of SmartBear Software's Tool Expandability”
SOMERVILLE, Mass. — August 14, 2018 —

SmartBear, the leader in software quality tools for teams, was cited as a Strong Performer in The Forrester Wave™: Omnichannel Functional Test Automation Tools, Q3 2018[1]. Using 26-criteria, Forrester, the premier research company that works with business and technology leaders to develop customer-obsessed strategies that drive growth, researched, analyzed, and scored the 15 most significant omnichannel functional test automation (OFTA) providers. SmartBear believes that Forrester’s rankings validate the continued momentum SmartBear has experienced in the last 18 months by providing test automation tools that are robust, yet easy to try, implement, and use by software development teams with any level of testing experience, technical expertise, and on any platform. The report recognized SmartBear for offering “superior capabilities in API testing and coding-based scripting.”

SmartBear has an array of test automation tools, including ReadyAPI, TestComplete, CrossBrowserTesting, TestLeft, TestServer, QAComplete, and Hiptest. SmartBear contributions to the open source community include their sponsorship of SoapUI and Swagger tools, founding of the OpenAPI Initiative, and support for other open source technologies such as Selenium.

“We believe our position in Forrester’s Wave ranking marks a major shift taking place in the Test Automation market,” said Ryan Lloyd, Vice President of Product, Test and Development at SmartBear. “Software development teams no longer want to be shackled by complex, expensive test automation platforms. The market is moving toward tools that foster collaboration, are open and interoperable, and are frictionless to try, implement, and use – and this is core to our product strategy at SmartBear.”

Forrester also noted that SmartBear provides a strong Test-Driven Development (TDD) and Behavior Driven Development (BDD) offering. In SmartBear’s view, these solutions empower developers to maintain their existing Continuous Integrations (CI) environments with ease while also providing a platform for business and technical stakeholders to communicate with a shared language. The addition of Hiptest to the SmartBear toolkit not only fortifies the company’s BDD offering but also adds to the various technical and non-technical users that SmartBear attracts with their variety of tools, including business personas, developers, QA professionals, and many more. With a diverse set of roles working at every phase of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), SmartBear focuses on the flexibility of their tools to fit seamlessly into the way teams are already working today.
